A good introduction to Acadian genealogical research can be found on the website of the Genealogy and Family History (LAC) (Library and Archives Canada)

It emphasizes that the microfilm records (below) are not official records but they can still be a useful source of information about a family.

1. Consult the Gaudet Notes in the Placide Gaudet Fonds on the LAC website (pdf, 27 pages)


2. Write down the microfilm number (for example: C-2241)


3. If the number falls between C-2238 and C2241, the microfilm reel can be ordered from Library and Archives Canada.


4. Order the microfilm on interlibrary loan.


5. If the number does not fall between C-2238 and C2241, go back to the Acadians page on the website of the Genealogy and Family History (LAC) to explore other options.
