Meeting at the court house. Editoraccuses Tories of bringing unpropertied persons who were unqualified to vote. Walter McCuniffe was chairman and James Nickalls. Jr. secretary. John S. Cartwright and James Atkinson nominated Christopher A. Hagerman. George W. Yarker and G.H. Maclean nominated J.S. Cartwright instead but the amendment was lost. The meeting was adjourned. Those present included George Mackenzie, A. Manahan, A.J. Ferns, D.J. Smith. "Liberals" at the meeting attempted to block Hagerman's nomination, but failed. The British Whig editor believes that most voters favour A. Truax.
