The purpose of Digital Kingston is to digitize and present a selection of significant local source materials from rare and special collections and make them available on the Internet. This project will provide local residents and researchers around the world with the resources and information they need to explore the richness of Kingston's history and heritage in order to further historical research and personal study and to better know and understand Kingston's past, present and future.

The first project undertaken by Digital Kingston has been the digitization of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library's index to the Kingston Whig Standard and its predecessors from 1810-1848. This project was made possible by funding recieved from the Ministry of Culture's Library Strategic Development Fund, and can be accessed by clicking on either the "Search Digital Collections" link at top left of the site, or on "Search the Digital Kingston Collections" in the Quick Links section to the left.

As part of this project, original newspapers housed in the W.D. Jordan Special Collections Library at Queen's University were scanned and linked to the index, providing access to the full text of newspapers for the period of 1810-1820. Work continues on this project.

As further content becomes available it will be added to the site.
