StoryMe: Indigenous Voices

Between July and December of 2021 Kingston Frontenac Public Library staff conducted oral history interviews with community members, Elders, and language keepers from the Kingston-Frontenac area and surrounding nations. The people interviewed were generous in sharing their history and memories of the community and the region over time. By adding the interviews to Digital Kingston, the history of Indigenous presence in the Kataroh:kwi region will remain available for future residents, researchers, students, and the public.

The purpose of doing oral histories is to have the Indigenous history of this region told by its Indigenous people, in their traditional way. In doing this, we aim to circumvent the colonial standard of “truth” being only what is recorded on paper, and support the tradition of oral storytelling.
